This study deals with “Türk Ocakları” (Turkish Societies) in the Rize province in the
Republic period. The societies were founded in three districts of the province. These
districts are the center, Athens (Pazar) and Hopa. The obtained information about
these societies is limited and mostly belongs to “Rize (Center) Türk Ocağı”. There is
not any tangible information on the activities of the other two societies. For this
reason, the effects of “Rize Türk Ocağı” on the social life of Rize during the Republic
period have been tried to be revealed in the study. The assets of the societies
transferred to the CHF (Republican People's Party) after their closure in 1931 have
been also included in the study. It has been concluded that “Rize Türk Ocağı” was not
very active and supported the revolutions, and that its members were also supporters
of CHF or those who were close to the party. Another result obtained from the study
is that “Hopa and Pazar Türk Ocakları” were engaged in some activities even at a
minimum level. In the study; newspapers and archives as well as primary and
secondary sources were utilized.
