assessed for smoking?



ABSTRACT



Objectives: The presence of psychiatric disorder is not obstacle for the treatment to
quit smoking; however this treatment is not preferred among primary purposes in
these patients. We aimed to investigate use of tobacco, whether asked their
smoking habit by a psychiatrist, the request of patients who smoke to quit
smoking, whether they can get help from the psychiatric outpatient clinic of
knowledge about smoking cessation and "Addiction and Treatment of
Smoking" training of the psychiatrists effects on query of smoking status.



Methods: This study was conducted at Outpatient Clinic of the Beyhekim Department
of Psychiatry at Konya Education and ResearchHospital between June and
July 2013. Five-item questionnaire was administered to all participants after
the examination in the first phase.. The outpatient clinic doctors were not
informed about the questionnaire during examination because of alteration their
interrogation of smoking. In September 2013, "Addiction and Treatment of
Smoking" training were given to the psychiatrists doctors working in this
study. In the second phase of this study, same questionnaire was administrated
to patients of these trained doctors..



Results: 51.1% of participants were smokers. In the first phase of the study,
doctors from the 18.3% (n= 40) and 53.5% (n = 95) in the second phase had
questioned smoking of patients. After training seminar the rate to question of
doctors had significantly increased (p<0.001). %37.9 of participants
(n=69) wanted to quit smoking. %46.9 of participants (n=186) knew that they can
get help from the psychiatric outpatient clinic for smoking cessation.



Conclusion: "Chance to get rid of smoking addiction" should be offered to
patients in psychiatric outpatient clinics. Working to increase the knowledge
of psychiatrics on this subject should be made.

Psikiyatri Polikliniğine Başvuran Hastaların Sigara Kullanımı Değerlendiriliyor Mu?

Abstract

ÖZET

Amaç: Psikiyatrik hastalık varlığı sigara
bırakma tedavisine engel olmamasına rağmen bu hastalarda sigara bırakma
tedavisi öncelikli hedefler arasında yer almamaktadır. Bu çalışmanın amaçları;
psikiyatri polikliniğine başvuran hastaların; sigara kullanma alışkanlıklarını
araştırmak, muayene oldukları psikiyatrist tarafından sigara kullanma
alışkanlıklarının kendilerine sorulup sorulmadığını değerlendirmek, sigara
kullanan hastaların sigarayı bırakma isteklerini değerlendirmek, sigara bırakma
konusunda psikiyatri polikliniklerinden yardım alınabileceği bilgisine sahibi
olup olmadıklarını öğrenmek ve “sigara bağımlılığı ve tedavisi” konusunda
yapılan hizmet içi eğitimin psikiyatristlerin sigara kullanımını sorgulama
durumlarına etkisini değerlendirmekti.

Yöntem: Konya Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi
Beyhekim Psikiyatri Kliniği Poliklinik Ünitesi’ne; Haziran 2013 - Temmuz 2013
tarihleri arasında başvuran tüm hastalara ilk aşamada, muayene sonrası beş
soruluk anket uygulandı. Muayene esnasında sigara kullanımı sorgulama
tutumlarını etkilememek için poliklinik doktorlarına anket çalışması hakkında
bilgi verilmedi. Eylül 2013 tarihinde, psikiyatri polikliniğinde çalışan
doktorlara “Sigara Bağımlılığı ve Tedavisi” konusunda seminer, çalışmanın
ikinci aşamasında; seminer almış bu doktorların hastalarına aynı anket
uygulandı.

Bulgular: Çalışmaya katılan hastaların %51,1’i
(n=203) sigara içiyordu. Çalışmanın ilk aşamasında doktorlar hastaların
%18,3’ünde (n=40), ikinci aşamasında %53,1’inde (n=95) sigara kullanımını
sorgulamıştı, eğitim semineri sonrası doktorların sigara kullanımını sorgulama
oranı anlamlı olarak artmıştı (p<0.001). Çalışmaya katılan tüm hastaların
%37,9’unun (n=69) sigara bırakma isteği mevcuttu ve %46,9’u (n=186) sigara bırakma
konusunda psikiyatriden yardım alınabileceğini biliyordu.

Sonuç: “Sigara Bağımlılığından kurtulma
şansı" psikiyatri poliklinik hizmetleri kapsamında hastalara sunulmalı,
psikiyatri doktorlarının konu ile ilgili bilgilerinin ve ilgilerinin artması
yönünde çalışmalar yapılmalıdır.
