Abstract

Abstract

This research aimed to determine the situations experienced by the children and their parents who were exposed to the Pazarcık and Elbistan earthquakes on February 6, and the emotional states that the children witnessed in their parents. The data of the study, which was conducted in qualitative research method and phenomenological design, were collected through face-to-face interviews with open-ended and semi-structured questions. The data were analyzed by content analysis, themes, categories and codes were created. The study group consists of 14 parents and 29 children in total, who came from the earthquake region and lived in the Bucak State student dormitory. Interviews were held with parents. According to the results, parents and children had traumatic experiences during and after the concussions. They saw the ruins and the chaotic state of people during and after the tremors. She also witnessed her parents' emotional states such as panicking, crying, screaming, being afraid, and freezing, and gave similar reactions. Children also saw the earthquake zone news and images watched by their parents, and witnessed all their conversations about the earthquake. Some of the emotional and behavioral changes seen in children are the fear of earthquakes, fear of death, not wanting to go home, not being able to sleep, outbursts of anger, intolerance, questioning the earthquake, and not leaving the mother. .
