TEKNOLOJİK GELİŞME İLE EKONOMİK BÜYÜME ARASINDAKİ NEDENSELLİK İLİŞKİSİ: G7 ÜLKELERİ ÜZERİNE BİR İNCELEME

Abstract

THE CAUSAL NEXUS BETWEEN TECHNOLOGICAL DEVELOPMENT AND ECONOMIC GROWTH: AN EVIDENCE FROM G7 COUNTRIES

Abstract

The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between technological development and economic growth in G-7 countries over the period of 1996-2018 using panel causality method. In study, technological development is measured by R&D expenditures and patent applications. According to Emirmahmutoglu ve Kose (2011) panel causality test results, the relationship between technological development and economic growth differs according to the indicator used. When the technological development is measured by R&D expenditures, the existence of a bidirectional causality relationship between R&D expenditures and economic growth has been proven. When the technological development is measured by patent applications, a unidirectional causality relationship from economic growth to technological development has been observed.
