The Impact of the Internet and Social Networks on Political Participation-The Case of SDU

Abstract

The aim of this study examines the impact of the internet and social networks which used in communication frequently on political participation. In this context, this study was applied between 1050 students of the Süleyman Demirel University. And the impact of some independent variables was examined as the internet and social networks on political participation behavior which is behavioral element of political attitudes. As a result, a significant and positive relationship was found between political participation and independent variables like communication with politicians on the internet and social networks; frequency and attitudes about following political news and sharing ideas on the internet and social networks.

İnternet ve Sosyal Ağların Siyasal Katılım Üzerine Etkisi- SDÜ Örnek Olayı

Abstract

Çalışmanın amacı, kişiler arası iletişimde sıkça kullanılan internet ve sosyal ağların, siyasal katılım  üzerine etkisini incelemektir. Bu kapsamda, Süleyman Demirel Üniversitesi öğrencisi olan, 1050 katılımcı arasında yapılan çalışmada, siyasal tutumların davranışsal öğesini oluşturan siyasal katılım davranışı üzerinde,  internet ve sosyal ağlarla ilgili, çeşitli bağımsız değişkenlerin etkisi incelenmiştir. Sonuç olarak, internet ve sosyal ağlar üzerinden siyasilerle iletişime geçme, fikir paylaşımı, siyasal içerikli haber takibi gibi faaliyetlerin sıklığı ve bu faaliyetlerin doğru bulunması ile ilgili bağımsız değişkenler ile siyasal katılım bağımlı değişkeni arasında anlamlı ve pozitif bir ilişki bulunmuştur.
