Abstract
Along with the use of digital technologies and global interactions, the possibilities and diversity seen in the production processes of documentary cinema have also manifested themselves in the contents and narrative structures of the films. Interactivity, one of the most fundamental features of new media technologies, has revealed films produced in digital media environments and defined as "interactive documentary", "multimedia documentary", "web documentary" or "new media documentary" as a new genre in documentary films. These films draw attention in terms of presenting innovations in documentary filmmaking in the digital age and approaches based on collaboration and interaction with the audience. In this study, it is aimed to reveal the innovations that digital technologies and digital culture brought to documentary cinema by considering the production conditions specific to documentary films. For this reason, the production possibilities of documentary films as well as the new approaches seen in the content and narrative structures of the films are discussed. In the study, in which the qualitative research method was used, a literature review and compilation was conducted on the subject. Docubase and i-Docs, which are among the main platforms that exhibit interactive documentary projects, are examined in this context and the documentary films that stand out on the Docubase platform, which allows film access, are taken as samples. The issue of what forms of participation these descriptively analysed films provide for the documentary audience and how films produced in collaboration between filmmakers, local people and audience/users transform contemporary documentary cinema are discussed.
