Aim: In this study, it was aimed to determine the features of the pediatric cases with the trauma caused by motorcycles. Method: 101 patients (< 18 years old) admitted to the emergency services of both Mersin University Medical Faculty and Niğde State Hospital due to the traffic accidentscaused by the use of motorcycles within two years (May 2013 - May 2015). The patient records ofthe cases were retrospectively investigated with respect to age, gender, being the driver or pedestrian, having a driving license or not, existence of protective cautions, traumas, surgeries, length of stay in hospital. Results: Among the 101 cases, 20 were females (19.8%) and 81 were males (80.2%).The 70 (69.3%) of the cases were driver whereas the 31 (30.7%) of them were pedestrians.The mean age of drivers was 15.4±1.9 years while the mean age of pedestrians was 8.2±3.9 years.The 14.2% of the drivers held a legal driving license.It has been detected that none of the drivers had no personal protection except one case.The most common injuries (64 cases) were observed as dermabrasion and skin laceration.The 62.4% of the cases were monitored as outpatients whereas 15.8% of them underwent surgery.The mean duration of stay in the hospital was 3.05±4.83. Conclusion: In childhood motorcycle accidents, it was realized that particularly male adolescents are influenced more.There must be legislative changes for adolescent drivers and the training programs suitable for this age group should be generalized
Amaç: Bu çalışmada, motosiklet kullanımına bağlı travması olan çocuk yaş grubu olguların özelliklerinin belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Yöntem: Çalışmaya Mayıs 2013-Mayıs 2015 tarihleri arasında Mersin Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi ve Niğde Devlet Hastanesi Acil Servis’lerine motosiklet kullanımına bağlı trafik kazası nedeni ile başvuran, 18 yaş altı 101 olgu dahil edildi. Olguların yaşları, cinsiyetleri, sürücü veya yaya olmaları, ehliyetlerinin olup olmaması, koruyucu önlemlerinin olup olmaması, mevcut travmaları, ameliyatları ve yatış süreleri açısından hasta kayıtları geriye yönelik olarak incelendi. Bulgular: Olguların 20’si kız (%19.8), 81’i erkek (%80.2) toplam 101 olgu alındı. Olguların 70’i (%69.3) sürücü iken, 31’i (%30.7) yaya idi. Sürücülerin yaş ortalaması 15.4±1.9 iken, yayaların yaş ortalaması 8.2±3.9 olarak tespit edildi. Çalışmadaki sürücülerin %14.2’sinin sürücü ehliyeti bulunmakta idi. Çalışmada bir olgu hariç sürücülerde kişisel koruyucu güvenlik önlemlerinin olmadığı tespit edildi. En sık görülen yaralanma şeklinin ise dermabrazyon ve cilt laserasyonu (64 olgu) olduğu belirlendi. Olguların %62.4’ünde ayaktan izlem yapılırken, %15.8’inde cerrahi müdahale uygulandı. Ortalama yatış süreleri 3.05±4.83 gün olarak tespit edildi. Sonuç: Çocuk yaş grubunda görülen motosiklet kullanımına bağlı trafik kazalarında, özellikle adolesan erkeklerin etkilendiği görülmektedir. Adolesan yaş grubu sürücüler için gerekli yasal değişiklikler yapılmalı, bu yaş grubunun özelliklerine uygun sürüş eğitim programları yaygınlaştırılmalıdır.

MEU Journal of Health Sciences Assoc was began to the publishing process in 2008 under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Gönül Aslan, Editor-in-Chief, and affiliated to Mersin University Institute of Health Sciences. In March 2015, Prof. Dr. Caferi Tayyar Şaşmaz undertook the Editor-in Chief position and since then he has been in charge.
Publishing in three issues per year (April - August - December), it is a multisectoral refereed scientific journal. In addition to research articles, scientific articles such as reviews, case reports and letters to the editor are published in the journal. Our journal, which has been published via e-mail since its inception, has been published both online and in print. Following the Participation Agreement signed with TÜBİTAK-ULAKBİM Dergi Park in April 2015, it has started to accept and evaluate online publications.
