Aims: Compliance with Coronavirus (COVID-19) protection measures is below the desired level despite the strict measures to control the spread. The study was aimed to evaluate the impact of fatalism on COVID-19 and determine the factors affecting compliance with outbreak control measures. Material and methods: The case-control study was conducted in a city between August and November 2020 with 69 COVID-19 patients and 205 individuals without COVID-19. The study's data was collected using the "COVID-19 and the Epidemic Protection Questionnaire" and the "Fatalism Tendency Scale". It was evaluated using T-test, Mann-Whitney U Test, Chi-Square analysis, correlation analysis and decision tree analysis. Results: The average age of the participants was 49.67± 18.89 (19-90) years in the case group, 46.31± 16.14 (19-86) years in the control group, 49.3% of the case group and 52.2% of the control group were male. The level of anxiety was high in the control group (p<0.001) and the tendency to fatalism was high in the case group (p<0.001). Two out of three participants believed that the mask, distance, and handwashing would completely protect against the pandemic disease. The strongest predictors of prevention from the epidemic were having COVID-19 disease and maintaining social distance. Conclusion: In this study, it was determined that the fatalistic tendency was high in the case group. Avoiding discourses, attitudes and behaviors that will increase the fatalistic tendency in the control of the epidemic; emphasizing the effectiveness of control measures can increase compliance with social measures.
