Yusufeli district is located within the borders of the Eastern Black Sea Section of the Black Sea Region. Located in the Middle Çoruh section of the Çoruh River Basin, the district is surrounded by the Altıparmak Mountains in the north and the Mescit Mountains in the south. Its mathematical location is between 4108- 4154 East longitudes and 4033- 4106 North latitudes. Since it is a transition area between the Eastern Black Sea Section and the Eastern Anatolia Region, it has a special characteristic that has the features of both regions. In this study, natural environmental characteristics such as pre-dam geological, geomorphological, topographic, climatic, edaphic, and natural vegetation of Yusufeli and its surroundings are discussed. The pre-dam conditions of the site are presented, and it is foreseen what changes will occur in the natural environmental characteristics in the next few years from the impoundment of the dam. In the study, the existing natural environmental features were evaluated, and the results obtained using various analysis methods such as elevation, slope, exposure, ecological sensitivity, NDVI, and NDMI analyzes were interpreted. Like other dams in our country, the positive and negative effects of the Yusufeli Dam on the natural environment will emerge over time.
