Speaking which is the most prominent feature of a human being and which is one of the elements that enable people to become socialized plays an important role in interpersonal communication in the daily life. Speech education must be given weight in order to make an effective communication and to prevent the defects in communication. In this study that was performed in order to identify seventh-grade students’ impromptu speaking skills and ninety-eight students participated in the study. The speeches of the students were recorded and then these records were transcribed. The speeches were evaluated qualitatively and quantitatively. The following situations were encountered during the impromptu speech: not being able to make a sentence according to the structure of Turkish grammar rules, having difficulty in finding appropriate words, repeating words and phrases often, speaking without making a plan and using event-based expressions. In addition, almost all students couldn’t use the three-minute speech time given to them completely. In the evaluation, students’ average scores were 38 out of 100 points. As a result of the research, impromptu speaking skills of the students have been identified as inadequate or partially sufficient. In accordance with the results, recommendations have been offered to curriculum, teachers, schools, and families about the training of impromptu speaking skills.
ÖZET
İnsan olmanın en belirgin özelliği ve insanın sosyalleşmesini sağlayan unsurlardan biri olan konuşma, günlük hayattaki kişiler arası iletişimde önemli bir yer tutmaktadır. İletişimin doğru şekilde gerçekleşmesi ve iletişimde karşılaşılabilecek aksaklıkların önüne geçilebilmesi için konuşma eğitimine önem verilmelidir. 7. sınıf öğrencilerinin hazırlıksız konuşma becerilerini tespit etmek amacıyla yapılan bu çalışma kapsamında 98 öğrenciye konuşma yaptırılmıştır. Öğrencilerin konuşmaları kaydedilmiş daha sonra da yazıya geçirilmiştir. Elde edilen konuşma metinleri nicel ve nitel olarak değerlendirilmiştir. Hazırlıksız konuşma sırasında öğrencilerin; Türkçenin dil bilgisi yapısına uygun cümle kurmada sıkça hata yaptıkları, kelime bulmakta zorlandıkları, sık sık kelime ve cümle tekrarına düştükleri, çoğunlukla bir plan yapmadan konuştukları, olay ağırlıklı anlatımlara yer verdikleri tespit edilmiştir. Ayrıca öğrencilerin tamamına yakını kendilerine verilen üç dakikalık konuşma süresini dolduramamıştır. Yapılan değerlendirmede öğrencilerin ortalama puanları 100 üzerinden 38 olmuştur. Araştırma sonucunda öğrencilerin hazırlıksız konuşma becerileri yetersiz ya da kısmen yeterli olarak tespit edilmiştir. Elde edilen sonuçlar doğrultusunda hazırlıksız konuşma becerisinin eğitimiyle ilgili olarak Programa, öğretmenlere, okula ve ailelere yönelik öneriler geliştirilmiştir.
