Türkiye’nin güneydoğusunda yer alan bir il olan Hatay, yurt topraklarına cumhuriyetin kuruluşundan sonra katılan tek il olma özelliğini taşımaktadır. Söz konusu katılışın öncesindeki son aşama, Eylül 1938’den Haziran 1939’a kadar varlığını sürdüren Hatay Cumhuriyeti’dir. Bu makalede kısa ömürlü Hatay Cumhuriyeti’ndeki sağlık hayatı, tıbbın sosyal tarihi çerçevesinde, tanıtılmış ve değerlendirilmiştir. Çalışmada ana kaynak olarak yerel Yenigün gazetesinin 1938-1939 koleksiyonu kullanılmıştır.
Hatay is a province located in the southeast part of Turkey.
It’s the only province join the country after the foundation
of Turkish Republic. The last step before this joining was
Hatay Republic existed from September 1938 to June 1939.
In this article health affairs in Hatay during this short period
are presented and evaluated in the context of social history
of medicine. The local newspaper Yenigün’s 1938-1939
collection is the main source of this study. Main topics
within the framework of news, articles and advertisements
in the newspaper are presentation and critique of health
policies, public and environmental health activities, fight
against epidemic diseases, position and/or task changes
of physicians, on-duty pharmacies problem, works of
charitable organizations, publicities of health professionals
and medical agenda of Turkey
