Abstract

The use of complementary therapies to improve health and quality of life is widespread both in the general population and among cancer patients. Complementary therapies provide relief in cancer patients by both alleviating the symptoms and eliminating the side effects resulting from the treatments. Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer among women and women with breast cancer are negatively affected physically, socially and psychologically. Women with breast cancer often use complementary methods in addition to routine treatment. It is stated that aromatherapy, which is one of the complementary application methods, is effective in symptom management on breast cancer patients. It is important to include aromatherapy practices in the nursing profession, where aromatherapy practices have been used in patient care since the past, because they are suitable for holistic care goals and professional ethics. The aim of this article is to evaluate the effect of aromatherapy on women with breast cancer.

Meme Kanseri ve Aromaterapi

Abstract

Sağlığı ve yaşam kalitesini yükseltmek için tamamlayıcı tedavilerin kullanımı hem genel popülasyonda hem de kanser hastaları arasında yaygındır. Tamamlayıcı tedaviler kanser hastalarında hem semptomları hafifletmek hem de tedaviler sonucu oluşan yan etkileri ortadan kaldırarak rahatlamayı sağlamaktadır. Meme kanseri kadınlar arasında en sık görülen kanser çeşididir ve meme kanseri olan kadınlar fiziksel, sosyal ve psikolojik olarak olumsuz etkilenmektedir. Meme kanseri olan kadınlar genellikle tamamlayıcı yöntemleri rutin tedaviye ek olarak kullanmaktadırlar. Tamamlayıcı uygulama yöntemlerinden olan aromaterapinin meme kanser hastaları üzerinde semptom yönetiminde etkili olduğu belirtilmektedir. Geçmişten bu yana aromaterapi uygulamalarının hasta bakımında kullanıldığı hemşirelik mesleğinde, holistik bakım hedeflerine ve meslek etiğine uygun olması nedeniyle aromaterapi uygulamalarına yer verilmesi önemlidir. Bu makalede aromaterapinin meme kanserli kadınlar üzerine etkisinin değerlendirilmesi amaçlanmıştır.
