Diş Hekimliğinde Fitoterapinin Yeri

Year 2021, Volume: 3 Issue: 3, 128 - 133, 29.12.2021

Abstract

The Phytotherapy in Dentistry

Year 2021, Volume: 3 Issue: 3, 128 - 133, 29.12.2021

Abstract

Phytotherapy is a type of treatment that involves the use of botanical extracts to prevent and treat diseases. Plants, which have always piqued people's interest since ancient times, are widely employed, particularly for medicinal purposes. Plants are now the source of numerous medical medications used to treat a variety of ailments. Patients and health professionals alike are seeking alternative treatments due to the insufficiency of present medications and treatment approaches for chronic disorders. Herbal extracts are also more often used in current medical therapies since they have less adverse effects than traditional medications, are less expensive, and easier to obtain.
Phytotherapy is commonly utilized in dentistry because to the antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, sedative, and anxiolytic properties of herbal extracts. Mouthwashes can be used to treat mouth sores, halitosis, and gum diseases by utilizing the antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties of herbal extracts. These mouthwashes, which are highly successful when compared to other mouthwashes on the market, have boosted interest in herbal sources due to the absence of adverse effects such as coloring, taste sensitivity, and harsh taste. Caries production can be prevented and oral and dental health can be safeguarded thanks to the anticariogenic actions of herbal extracts. In root canal treatment, herbal extracts that can be employed as irrigation agents and intracanal medicaments have been discovered to be beneficial. In addition to this, it can be employed in surgical applications with bleeding-stopping and wound-healing properties.
The goal of this review is to provide information on the plants that are employed in the field of oral and dental health, as well as their role in dental therapies.
