TÜRKİYE EKONOMİSİNDE PHILLIPS EĞRİSİ ANALİZİ: GÜNCEL ZAMAN SERİSİ TEKNİKLERİNDEN YENİ KANITLAR

Abstract

Phillips eğrisi, enflasyon oranı ile işsizlik oranı arasındaki negatif yönlü ilişkiyi gösteren bir eğri olarak tanımlanmaktadır. Bu çalışmanın amacı, Phillips eğrisi analizinin uzun dönemde Türkiye ekonomisi için geçerli olup olmadığının belirlenmesidir. Çalışmanın veri aralığı 1939-2023 yılları olarak belirlenmiştir. Çalışmada yöntem olarak Fourier birim kök testleri, genişletilmiş ARDL testi, simetrik ve asimetrik nedensellik testleri kullanılmıştır. Öncelikle uygulanan birim kök testlerinden elde edilen ara sonuçlara göre incelenen dönem itibariyle Türkiye’de işsizlik histerisi ve fiyat yapışkanlığı geçerli değildir. Genişletilmiş ARDL testi sonuçlarına göre enflasyon ve işsizlik serileri birlikte hareket etmemektedir. Bir başka ifadeyle Türkiye’de uzun dönemde Phillips eğrisi geçerli bulunmamıştır. Uygulanan simetrik ve asimetrik nedensellik testlerine göre ise değişkenler arasında herhangi bir nedensellik ilişkisi bulunmamıştır. Bu bağlamda nedensellik testleri de genişletilmiş ARDL modeli sonuçlarını desteklemektedir.

PHILLIPS CURVE ANALYSIS IN THE TURKISH ECONOMY: NEW EVIDENCE FROM RECENT TIME SERIES ECHNIQUES

Abstract

The Phillips curve is defined as a curve showing the negative relationship between the inflation rate and the unemployment rate. The aim of this study is to determine whether the Phillips curve analysis is valid for the Turkish economy in the long run. The data range of the study is determined as the years 1939-2023. Fourier unit root tests, extended ARDL test, symmetric and asymmetric causality tests are used in the study. First of all, according to the intermediate results obtained from the unit root tests, unemployment hysteria and price stickiness are not valid in Türkiye as of the analyzed period. According to the results of the extended ARDL test, inflation and unemployment series do not move together. In other words, the Phillips curve is not valid in the long run in Türkiye. According to the symmetric and asymmetric causality tests, there is no causality relationship between the variables. In this context, causality tests also support the results of the extended ARDL model.
