Abstract

Abstract
Objectives: We aimed to investigate smartphone use habits among adolescents who applied to a training and research hospital.
Methods: Adolescents diagnosed with Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder or Anxiety Disorder were recruited as study group. “Demographic Information Form Adolescent-Parent” and “Test of Mobile Phone Dependence ” were applied. Appropriate statistical methods were used to analyze the data. p<0.05 was accepted as significant
Results: There was not significant difference between the scores of Test of Mobile Phone Dependence its sub-scales in terms of age group and gender. Test of Mobile Phone Dependence score was found higher in the group using the smartphone more than three hours a day. Considering the purposes of smartphone use, the most frequent purposes among the cases were detected including texting, phone calls, movie-video watching, and social media.
Conclusion: Using a smartphone more than three hours a day was considered as a risk factor for smartphone addiction. Moreover using the smartphone mainly for entertainment and gaming was also considered as a risk factor for dependence. Studies in this field are important to prevent smartphone addiction and problematic use, and more detailed studies are needed to determine the situation in adolescents with a psychiatric diagnosis.
