Cerebral ischemia is the third leading cause of death after cancer and cardiovascular diseases in the developed societies. In recent years, one of the most important treatment protocols applied in stroke treatment is the neuroprotective treatment, which limits cell damage occurring within the area of infarct. The carvacrol, which has an anti-inflammatory effect, shows neuroprotective activity in cerebral tissue with an infarct, but this effect is not sufficiently elucidated at the molecular level. The aim of our study was to investigate the effects of carvacrol on plasma TBARS, GSH, SOD, CAT, GPx, IL-1 BETA, IL-4 and TNF-ALPHA levels in the cerebral tissue, by creating global ischemia in the laboratory conditions.
