Abstract

Abstract

Investigating the different
dietary habits and their relationship with chronic diseases in the world can
provide important information about the place and effectiveness of nutrients.
The Mediterranean Diet is a healthy nutrition model that contributes to health
status. The aim of our study is to adapt the Mediterranean Diet Adherence Scale
(MEDAS) to Turkish and to evaluate its reliability. Mediterranean Diet
Adherence Scale is a questionnaire, consists of 14 questions. Study was
completed in 2 stages; firstly original English questionirre was translated
into Turkish. In the second step, the reliability of the Turkish scale was
determined. The study was carried out in Eskişehir Osmangazi University
Clinical Applications and Research Hospital Family Medicine Clinic. 71 people
were included in the study. While 42.25% (n = 30) of the participants had a
total score of 7 and over, they had a Mediterranean diet match, 57.75% (n = 41)
had a total score of less than 7, and no Mediterranean diet match. The Cronbach
Alpha coefficient of the scale is 0.829, which indicates that the scale is
reliable. Our study shows that the Turkish adaptation scale of Mediterranean
Diet is reliable.
