Abstract

Die lydische Form des Toponyms Sardes wird als *Sfard- oder *Sfardi-, Dat. *Sfardλ > Sfarλ, rekonstruiert, wohingegen sfarda- weder eine Form des Toponyms noch des Ethnikons, sondern ein mit dem Suffix -da- gebildetes Wort ist. Der aus einer griechischen Inschrift bekannte Personenname Spelmos und seine literarisch überlieferte Variante Spermos werden mit Istupeλm- verbunden, das möglicherweise auf *iš-stupeλm- zurückgeht. Der Name des Königs Krösus könnte mit den belegten Stämmen kro- und wis(δ)- gebildet sein, vielleicht mit *-wis(δ)-u-. Die Glosse λαίλας «Tyrann» wird mit dem belegten laλâns verbunden. Die lydische Form könnte eine Bezeichnung für den Mondgott sein, wie es «Tyrann» viel später ist.

Sardis, Spelmos, Croesus and λαίλας in Lydian

Abstract

The Lydian form of the toponym Sardis is reconstructed as *Sfard- or *Sfardi-, dat. *Sfardλ > Sfarλ, whereas sfarda- is neither a form of the toponym nor a form of the ethnicon, but a word with the suffix -da-. The personal name Spelmos in a Greek inscription, Spermos in a legendary narrative, is linked with Istupeλm-, possibly < *iš-stupeλm-. The name of king Croesus could be composed from the attested stems kro- and wis(δ)-, perhaps *-wis(δ)-u-. The gloss λαίλας «tyrant» is linked with the attested laλâns. The Lydian form could be a designation of the Moongod, as is «tyrant» much later.

Abstract

Yazar makalesinde henüz oldukça az bilinen Lidce dilinde belgelenmiş bazı sözcüklerin anlamını açıklamaya çalışmaktadır. Lidce sözcüklerin çoğunun Yunanca şekliye aktarıldığına dikkat çeken yazar; incelemesinde dört sözcüğe odaklanmıştır: 1) Sardis yer isminin asıl şekli *Sfard- ya da *Sfardi- (Dativus hali: *Sfardλ > Sfarλ) olmalıdır. Bununla sfarda- sözcüğünü ilişkilendirmemek gerekmektedir, çünkü sfarda ne bir toponym’den ne de ethnikon’dan üretilmiştir, ancak -da- ekiyle biten bir sözcük olmalıdır. 2) Ephesos kazılarında bulunan, Klasik Dönem’e ait bir Yunanca yazıtta geçen Spelmos şahıs ismi ve bir efsanede anılan Spermos ismi Istupeλm-, olasılıkla < *iš-stupeλm- ile bağlantılı olmalıdır. 3) Lidyalılardan en çok tanınan kral Kroisos’un ismi belgelenen kro- ve wis(δ)- (olasılıkla *-wis(δ)-u-) köklerinden birleştirilmiş olmalıdır. 4) Tiran anlamını taşıyan λαίλας sözcüğü belgelenen laλâns ile ilişkili olmalıdır. Bu sözcük Lidcede sonraki evrelerde «tiran» olarak anılan Ay Tanrısı’nı tanımlamak için kullanılmıştır.
