Bilgi çağının yeni trendi: Dijital istifçilik üzerine bir araştırma

Year 2022, Issue: 28, 290 - 308, 21.06.2022
https://doi.org/10.29000/rumelide.1132565

Abstract

New trend of the information age: A research on digital hoarding

Year 2022, Issue: 28, 290 - 308, 21.06.2022
https://doi.org/10.29000/rumelide.1132565

Abstract

Subconsciously, hiding as a motive, feeling the need to collect to use when the time comes, are among the various stockpiling definitions of hoarding. Stockpiling is a natural human instinct, and hoarding disorder occurs when this situation is repeated frequently and habit of not being able to abandon objects continues to increase. Today, frequent use of technology has brought about its negative consequences, and digital diseases have started to be talked about more often, especially the psychological and physiological effects of big data is being seriously discussed. Individuals of information age prefer to store information in digital environments rather than memorizing it by getting a lot of information from the Internet, which has an immense amount of data, and the fact that digital technologies have become an inevitable part of daily life causes all kinds of data, stored digitally. Among the reasons for accumulating data, research has shown that individuals can also be triggered by a number of other personal problems, such as distraction, avoidance of responsibility, postponement of responsibilities, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. The tension and anxiety about the emergence of new technologies in the digitalizing world and their inclusion in all areas of daily life have revealed the concern of digitalization and technology. The concept of self-sufficiency is the psychological foundation of information technology anxiety. In analyzing digital storage behavior, the notions of information technology concern and self-sufficiency are critical. It is clear that research on the causes and consequences of individuals’ collecting and storing digital tools and their content is quite limited. In this context, storage issues that involve individual virtual products, such as individualistically databases, videos, images, and digital documents; in other words, doing research on digital stacking is the purpose of the study. The problematic of the study is to evaluate the digital accumulation behaviors of the participants within the framework of information technology self-efficacy and anxiety by conducting focus group interviews, which is one of the qualitative research methods, with open-ended questions directed at the digital stackers selected as samples.
