Abstract

Abstract
Aim: The research was conducted descriptively using the SWOT analysis method to determine the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on nursing.
Material and method: The research was completed with 300 volunteers working in COVID intensive care units and clinics in a city hospital in Turkey. A survey form consisting of two parts, evaluating sociodemographic characteristics and SWOT categories, was used as a data collection tool in the study. Nurses who agreed to participate in the research and whose written permission/verbal consent was obtained were asked to fill out the questionnaire in the nurse's room, accompanied by the researcher, under the conditions permitted by the institution, taking into account the COVID-19 pandemic process and infection rules. The dataset was evaluated with the SPSS program.
Results: In the research, when the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic on nursing was evaluated according to SWOT analysis, 34% of the nurses had professional factors under the strengths category (21.7%); 81.7% had psychological factors under the weakness category (59%); It was determined that 29.3% identified occupational factors (19.3%) under the opportunity category and 79% identified occupational factors (64%) under the threat category (p<0.05). In the study, when the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on nursing was evaluated according to the sociodemographic characteristics of the SWOT analysis, a statistically significant difference was detected between the groups only in terms of gender (female: 87.8%) in the weakness category (p < 0.05).
Conclusion: The COVID-19 epidemic has affected nursing, the largest professional organization in healthcare, in every aspect. It was concluded that the nurses participating in our research defined the COVID-19 pandemic as a negative and threatening factor. Based on this, it is envisaged that with the COVID-19 epidemic taking its place in history as an example, it will be possible to strengthen the nursing profession by taking into account the experiences of nurses, developing the right policies for this, and ensuring fair workforce distribution with the contributions of managers.

Abstract

Bulgular: Araştırmada, COVID-19 salgınının hemşirelik üzerindeki etkisi SWOT analizine göre değerlendirildiğinde hemşirelerin %34’ünün güçlü yön kategorisi altında mesleki faktörleri (%21.7); %81.7’sinin zayıf yön kategorisi altında psikolojik faktörleri (%59); %29.3'ünün fırsat kategorisi altında mesleki faktörleri (%19.3) ve %79'unun tehdit kategorisi altında mesleki faktörleri (%64) tanımladığı belirlenmiştir (p<0.05).
