Sport Migration in the Context of Postcolonialism in Turkey

Abstract

Purposes of this study were to discuss the “modern

sport” phenomenon with a postcolonial critical

approach, display the place of the sports in the

postcolonial structure through sport labour immigration

and explain the situation in Turkey. According to

this point of view, sport has built upon the old colonial

structure and economic gap between the colony

and colonialist states has deepened with this order.

In sport area, worlds’ powerful economies inevitably

became a central of attraction and it reinforced the

immigration of talents in developing countries with

low costs. Although it would be acceptable for these

individual immigration of these talented players to

the rich countries or their big clubs which affirmed as

the holders of global sports economy means systematic

“deskilling” for their home countries. On the other

hand, parallel to this postcolonial order, countries

which have no formal colonial ties like Turkey have

some immigrant-shaped sport branches. Also, these

countries sport systems serve the postcolonial order

through allowing elder players with astronomic contracts.

Postkolonyalizm Bağlamında Türkiye’deki Sporcu Göçü

Abstract

Bu çalışmanın amacı postkolonyal ilişkilerin önemli

rolü olduğu düşünülen “modern spor” olgusunu

eleştirel bir bakışla ele almak, sporun postkolonyal

yapıdaki yerini yetenek göçü çerçevesinden hareketle

gözler önüne sermek ve Türkiye özelinde durumun ne

olduğunu açıklamaya çalışmaktır. Spor, postkolonyal

bakış açısıyla eski kolonyal yapının üzerine kurulmuştur

ve oluşturulan bu sistemde sömürge-sömüren

arasındaki uçurum ekonomik anlamda daha da derinleşmiştir.

Yeni yapı sayesinde dünyanın güçlü ekonomileri

sporda kaçınılmaz olarak bir çekim merkezi

haline gelmiş ve az gelişmiş ülkelerdeki yeteneklerin

düşük maliyetlerle bu ülkelere göçleri ile pekişmiştir.

Yetenekli sporcuların küresel spor ekonomisini elinde

bulunduran güçlü ülkelere ve futbol örneğinde olduğu

gibi bu ülkelerin büyük kulüplerine gitmeleri, onlar

adına önemli bir adım olsa da, geldikleri ülkelerin

sistematik olarak “yeteneksizleştirilmesi” anlamına

gelmektedir. Diğer taraftan formel anlamda kolonyal

bağları olmayan Türkiye gibi ülkelerin spor sistemleri

ise açıklamaya çalışılan postkolonyal yapıya uygun

olarak, az gelişmiş ülkelerden gelen göçlerle şekillenen

bazı branşlar ve yüksek kontratlarla gelen yaşlı

ünlü futbolcularla var olan yapıya hizmet etmektedir.
