Simulation is an interactive teaching strategy that enables participants to gain the desired knowledge,
skills and attitudes by using simulator or standardized patients develop critical thinking, problem solving
and decision-making skills in participants. With the development of technology, the use of simulation
as a new teaching method in the field of nursing has been increasing in recent years. Geropsychiatric
nursing is one of the areas of nursing where the use of simulation has been very common. Geropsychiatric
nursing is a special area that blends psychiatry and gerontology nursing, and it appears as a current
and developing field with the increasing elderly population in our country. In order to increase the quality
of care given to elderly people with mental disorders, innovative pedagogical methods have been
widely used in the geropsychiatric nursing curriculum. Simulation interventions with different methods have many benefits in terms of students, lecturers, institutions, elderly healthy/individuals with mental
disorders and caregivers in the field of geropsychiatric nursing. In this review, the use of simulation in
geropsychiatric nursing and the benefits of this method was explained.
