Abstract
The cases of children living or working on the street are also among the most important and ever-increasing problems for Turkey and the world. Every child has the most natural right to live in healthy and age-appropriate conditions. Children are forced to live or work on the streets due to poverty, drought, famine, rural and urban migration, violence, deterioration in family relations, neglect, abuse, death, and divorce. Children living or working on the streets face violence, neglect, abuse, accidents, substance abuse, lack of education rights, participation in criminal groups on the street, mental and physical development, and psychological and social problems. Nurses play an important role as they are the first people to meet the child. Public health, school health, pediatric nurses play a crucial role in meeting vulnerable needs such as care, follow-up, health protection, shelter, and education of these vulnerable children. Pediatric nurses perform many roles simultaneously in the phenomenon of children living or working on the streets, such as caregiver and health-protecting, educative, advocate and decision-making, counseling, communication, and cooperation. In this review, it is aimed to include the increasing problems of children living or working on the street, their nursing approaches, and the roles of pediatric nurse.
