Abstract
Ancient
Schwannomas are rare schwannoma variants originating from perineural Schwann
cells. These tumors are termed “ancient” based on the degenerative features they
indicated which is attributed to increasing age. They are accepted as benign,
slow growing tumors mostly detected
incidentally. Some tumors may be mistakenly termed malignant if they
demonstrate nuclear atypia. Retroperitoneal schwannomas account for only 0.5%
to 5% of all cases and are extremely uncommon. As they are well encapsulated, recurrences
following complete surgical excision are uncommon.
We
present here a case of retroperitoneal ancient schwannoma and review this rare
entity under the guidence of recent literature.

Abstract
Ancient
