Systematic Review for Standardization of Water Exercises Applied to Older Individuals

Yıl 2020, Cilt: 4 Sayı: 1, 71 - 86, 28.04.2020

Öz

The aim of this review is to examine the studies of water exercise programs, which have started to become common, for older individuals. Water exercises are among the main options for elderly individuals to perform regular physical activities for a healthy life. Many studies have led to the development of various methods and training programs on this subject, but a standard water exercise program hasn't been established in general. The training method and the selected movements are determined by the institution and trainer who applies the exercise program. In the review study prepared, the aimed to determine what should be considered to create a standard program of water exercise studies applied to elderly people. In this sense, it is goal to prepare the common water exercise movement list in the studies conducted. According to the determined keywords, articles were scanned in PubMed, Google Scholar and Science Direct databases. As a result of the screening, total of 279 articles were identified. Among these, 28 articles that are suitable for the content of the compilation were selected and a detailed examination was made. According to findings of the prepared study, a list of movements that were commonly applied in water exercise programs were prepared. The duration of general water exercises and general pool characteristics for elderly individuals were determined. As a result of the findings of the study, list of 19 items were proposed about the points to be considered while preparing the water exercise program and determining the intensity of exercise.
