Year 2021, Volume: 8 Issue: 1, 140 - 147, 30.04.2021

Abstract

Background: It was aimed to evaluate the quality of the information content of the videos about "dental treatment under general anesthesia in children" on the YouTubeTM video platform.
Methods: Videos were searched by using the terms "dental treatment under general anesthesia in children" and "dental treatment under general anesthesia" on the YouTubeTM video platform. As a result of the search, it was determined that there were 113 videos and after the exclusion criteria were applied, a total of 24 videos were evaluated. Each video was watched by a single researcher and the number of views, likes, dislikes, and comments of these videos, the duration of the video (minutes), the day since the video was uploaded and the video source information was recorded. A scoring system consisting of 8 parameters was used to classify the video content quality. Kruskal Wallis test, Mann-Whitney U test, and Spearman correlation analysis were used for statistical evaluation. Statistical significance was taken as p<0.05.
Results: Videos about dental treatment under general anesthesia in children on the YouTubeTM platform were watched 3412.83 ± 6082.48 times, liked 10.13 ± 14.38 times, disliked 0.96 ± 1.93 times, and these videos It was determined that ± 9.81 comments were made. It was determined that 11 had poor quality information content, 10 had medium quality information content and 3 had good quality information content of all videos. It was determined that videos with good quality information content had significantly higher video duration, the number of likes, viewing rate, and information reliability scores than videos with poor quality information content (p<0.05), but there was no significant difference between videos with medium quality information content (p>0.05).
Conclusion: The videos on the YouTube™ platform on “dental treatment under general anesthesia in children” are insufficient in terms of providing information. Therefore, physicians should direct parents to appropriate and professional resources so that they can obtain accurate and up-to-date information.

Çocuklarda Genel Anestezi Altında Uygulanan Diş Tedavileri ile İlgili YouTube™ Videolarının İçerik Analizi

Year 2021, Volume: 8 Issue: 1, 140 - 147, 30.04.2021
https://doi.org/10.15311/selcukdentj.856093
