COVID-19 PANDEMİSİ SÜRECİNDE BİLİNÇLENDİRME FAALİYETLERİNİN AKTİF GÜNLÜK YAŞAMDA YORUMLAMA VE DAVRANIŞ ŞEKİLLERİ ÜZERİNE ETKİSİNİN ARAŞTIRILMASI

Abstract

INVESTIGATION OF THE EFFECT OF AWARENESS-RAISING ACTIVITIES ON INTERPRETATION AND BEHAVIOR IN ACTIVE DAILY LIFE DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC PROCESS

Year 2022, Volume: 9 Issue: 3, 785 - 791, 26.12.2022

Abstract

Background: In our country, widespread and comprehensive awareness-raising studies are enforced about incubation period, initial symptoms and isolation process in COVID-19 (Coronavirus disease 2019) pandemic. The study aimed to investigate rate of interpretation and behavior of our patients and their relatives about the information obtained during the pandemic.
Methods: The questionnaire was administered face-to-face to 292 volunteer patients and their relatives who applied to the dental hospital during the pandemic. The data were run through univariate and multivariable regression analyses. Survey variables include demographics, comorbidities, disease severity prediction in case of infection, COVID-19 presence in relative, and concrete clinical scenarios for onset of symptoms, incubation and isolation period.
Results: % 85.6 of participants misinterpreted incubation period and % 68.1 avoided applying hospital when symptoms appeared. In isolation process, majority of participants exhibited correct behavior (% 60.6), while a significant part needed to phone dentist (% 23.6). The rate of correct interpretation and behavior of elderly, low educated and comorbid participants was generally low. Although those with COVID-19 positive relatives interpreted the incubation period more accurately, they avoided applying to hospital in presence of symptoms.
Conclusions: Despite intensive informations, it was clearly seen that majority of participants misinterprets incubation period and avoids applying hospital in presence of symptoms. Witnessing COVID-19 nearby didn’t change knowledge level and behavior as expected. It was thought that it would be beneficial to include elderly, comorbid and low-educational individuals in target audience in informations to be organized to increase awareness and correct behavior level of society.
