Abstract
Objectıve: Determining the prognostic factors in patients diagnosed with prostate cancer is important in terms of patient follow-up and treatment process. In this study, it was aimed to retrospectively examine the Nutrition Status score (CONUT score), which is the nutritional status marker of prostate cancer patients.
Material and Methods: In this retrospective study, the laboratory findings (lymphocyte, albumin and total cholesterol results) of 100 patients who were followed up in the Urology Department of Afyonkarahisar Health Sciences University Hospital in 2021 were retrospectively reviewed. A total of 40 followed-up patients with three parameters as a result of the screening were included in the study. CONUT score was calculated according to serum albumin, total cholesterol and lymphocyte levels.
Results: The mean age of the 40 patients included in the study for the CONUT score was 69±7. Patients were divided into two groups as localized and metastatic prostate cancer. While the median value of CONUT score was 1(0-5) in patients with localized prostate cancer, it was 2(0-7) in metastatic prostate cancer. However, the difference between these two groups was not statistically significant (p= 0.248).
Conclusion: We found that the CONUT score was not a significant predictor in terms of statistical significance in the nutritional follow-up of prostate cancer patients. This is the first study to evaluate nutrition in prostate cancers. However, due to the limited number of patients included in the study, prospective studies with larger patient populations are needed.
