Words change, develop or eliminate its semantic field because of its nature. There are various reasons for all these semantic cases. Every kind of verb that occurs in the mind process called mental verb. Perception verbs are considered as subtype of mental verbs. Perception verbs have very compact frequency because of being mental process initiator.
One of the factors that cause the meaning fields of the words to change is the usage frequency. Words can be polysemic as they are used extensively in language. Perception verbs are used extensively in language because of being mental process initiator. Surely five subtypes of each of the perception verbs is not used at the same frequency. The rate of use of visual, hearing, tasting, touching and smell sensation verbs are not equal to each other. For example, visual sensation verbs that are more important to human beings are used more often in language, so these verbs become polysemic.
In this article perception verbs in Turkish are scanned in created corpus, relation between the word frequency and polysemy is evaluated.
