Augustus Dönemi Hellen dünyasına ve edebiyatına ilişkin düşünceler

Abstract

Augustus’un princeps sıfatıyla başlattığı yeni dönem, Roma’nın kendi iç meselelerini çözmekle kalmamış; ayrıca, Hellenler’in de refaha ulaşmalarını sağlamıştır. Pax Augusta denilen bu süreç, Hellenler’in kültürel açıdan yeniden uyanmasının ilk adımlarını atmıştır. Bu dönemde, Cumhuriyet Devri’nin son yüzyılında olduğu gibi, Romalı devlet adamlarının ve generallerin icraatını kaydetme amacıyla yapıtlar oluşturma geleneği devam etmiştir. Ancak, bir dünya tarihi veya imparator biyografisi kaleme alma modeli de yaygınlaşmıştır. Ayrıca, Augustus’un teşvikiyle özellikle hitabet alanında Attika biçemine dönüş yaşanmış ve böylece ilk defa Nero Dönemi’nde ortaya çıkan Klasik Hellen yazınına öykünme ve Klasik Hellen değerlerini yansıtma modasının temeli atılmıştır. Edebiyattaki bu gelişim, elbette, Roma imparatoru Augustus’un temelini attığı stabil yönetimi ve hoşgörüye dayalı politikasıyla ilintilidir. Bu çalışmada, Augustus’un Actium’daki başarısıyla (M.Ö. 30) başlayan hükümdarlığından, ölümüne dek (M.S. 14) vuku bulan siyasal olaylara Hellenlerle ilgili olduğu ölçüde kısaca değinilecek ve bu atmosfer altında gelişen Hellen Edebiyatı hakkında genel bir çerçeve sunulmaya çalışılacaktır

OBSERVATIONS ON THE GREEK WORLD AND GREEK LITERATURE IN THE AGE OF AUGUSTUS

Abstract

The new era, initiated by Augustus as princeps, not only regulated the internal affairs of Rome, but also caused Greeks to live in prosperity. The cultural revival of Greeks began in this process, called pax Augusta. In this period, the tradition of creating works in order to record the great deeds of Roman statesmen and generals continued as in the last century of the Republican Era. However, writing universal history or biography of the emperor was also flourished. Furthermore, there was a return to the Attic style especially in oratory with the encouragement of Augustus By this way, the imitation of Classical Greek writers and reflecting the values of Greeks began to develop, but this intellectual movement blossomed in the reign of Nero. This literary development was associated with the security and tolerance of Augustus’ regime. In this study, the political events lasting from the victory of Augustus at Actium (30 BC) to the death of emperor (14 AD) will be mentioned briefly. Besides, the Greek Literature in the age of Augustus will be tried to describe
