Abstract

In Smyrna, the most brilliant city of Asia Minor, an earthquake happened in 177 AD and the city was destroyed after the earthquake. Aelius Aristides, the most prominent orator of this era, using his oratorical talent, persuaded the imperor Marcus Aurelius to help the city and by this way, he enabled the reconstruction of the city In this work, orations (no: 18, 19, 20) by which the orator achieved this success, will be translated and evaluated. These orations of Aristeides are important since they are the only documents which described the Smyrnean earthquake at an era when it was occured

Abstract

Aristeides’in bu söylevleri, Smyrna depremini yaşandığı çağda konu alan tek belge olması bakımından önemlidir
