Abstract
Aziz Nesin is one of the most prolific writers of Turkish literature in almost every genre. Although he was born in a conservative family, he lost his faith with the influence of his experiences and changes in his world of thought over time. Nesin, who bravely expressed his views in almost every environment and in every way, did not hesitate to openly declare that he was an atheist. Naturally, Nesin's unbelief found deep repercussions in his works. Nesin wanted to convey his thoughts to his readers both directly and indirectly in all his works. Especially, the Dede Korkut style advice and suggestions at the end of some of his works are quite striking.
In this study, the foundations of atheism in Nesin's works are examined based on his stories, poems and interviews. After a brief introduction on the definition and types of atheism, Nesin's life and mentality are given briefly. Qualitative data obtained from Nesin's works and literature review were subjected to document analysis. The study is limited to determining the reflections of atheism within the scope of religion and the hereafter in Nesin's thought. It is possible to summarize the result of the research as that the anti-religious and anti-hereafter discourses in Nesin's works are mostly within the boundaries of practical ideological atheism. He seems to have found the solution by being an atheist, mostly attributing the fundamental problems he saw in society such as immorality, hypocrisy, self-interest, exploitation and corruption to religion. Nesin did not worry about creating a theoretical atheism in his works in a philosophical context.
