Fosil polen ve jeokimyasal (μ-xrf) analizler ışığında Yelten Sazlığı (Antalya- Korkuteli-Türkiye) ve çevresinin son 2.100 yıllık paleovejetasyon ve paleoiklimi

Year 2022, Issue: 81, 141 - 156, 31.12.2022

Abstract

In the light of fossil pollen and geochemical (μ-XRF) analysis paleovegetation and paleoclimate of Yelten Marsh (Antalya-Korkuteli-Türkiye) and its surroundings for the last 2100 years

Abstract

Yelten Marsh (1670 m) is located in Korkuteli district of Antalya. This study is a paleovegetation
study conducted in Southwest Anatolia and aims to determine the paleovegetation and
paleoclimate structure of the last ~2100 years. In this context, 48 cm sediment core was taken
from Yelten Marshes and according to the results of the radiocarbon dating analysis, it was
found that the age of the base was 2.157 (Cal BP). 32 fossil pollen analyzes were made on the
sediment core and the results were converted into diagrams. In the resulting diagram, three
main and three subzones were determined. The total ratio of woody/wood taxa (AP; arboreal
pollen) between zones varied between 98% and 85.1%. Among the fossil pollen findings,
Pinus sp., Juniperus sp., Quercus sp. are important AP taxa. Asteraceae, Amaranthaceae and
Lactuaceae were important taxa in NAP (non-arboreal pollen) representing herbaceous taxa.
In addition, μ-XRF analyzes were applied on the core, graphs of the μ-XRF data were drawn
and paleoclimate changes were revealed. As a result of the analyzes, similarities with the
characteristics of four different global climate periods (Roman Warm Climate Period, 1400 Cold
Climate Period, Medieval Warm Period and Little Ice Age) were determined in the region. In the
last 2 thousand years, forest existence is quite dominant in the vegetation structure. As a result,
the data obtained were compared with the results of previous research in Southwest Anatolia,
and information on the change of climatic conditions, land use and vegetation structure during
the Roman, Byzantine Empire, Seljuk and Ottoman Empire periods was obtained.
