Abstract
Günümüzde
yükseköğretim kurumlarının sayıca artmaya devam etmesiyle birlikte,
yükseköğretim kurumlarının öğrenci kontenjanları ve buna bağlı olarak
yükseköğretim seviyesinde öğrenim gören öğrencilerin sayısı da giderek
artmaktadır. Aynı zamanda, ailesinde ilk defa bir yükseköğretim kurumunda
öğrenim gören öğrenci sayısı da artmaktadır. Birinci kuşak üniversite
öğrencileri olarak adlandırılan bu öğrenci grubunun genel özelliklerinin ve
üniversite eğitimleri boyunca karşılaştıkları durumların ve birinci kuşak
olmayan öğrencilerle karşılaştırıldığında ortaya çıkan durumların incelenmesi,
daha nitelikli bir yükseköğretim sunmak açısından önemli görülmektedir.
Türkiye’de bu konu odağında bir literatür oluşmadığı dikkate alınarak bu
çalışmayla birinci kuşak üniversite öğrencilerinin genel durumları tespit
edilmiş, birinci kuşak olmayan öğrencilerden elde edilen sonuçlar ki-kare ve
t-testleri kullanılarak karşılaştırılmıştır. Birinci kuşak öğrencilerinin
yükseköğretim süreçlerinin birinci yılının sonucunda ortaya çıkan akademik
performansları değerlendirilmiştir. Sonuçlar doğrultusunda birinci kuşak
üniversite öğrencileriyle ilgili bazı tespitler ve öneriler sunulmuştur.
