aims to train competent officials and clergy based on the a revolutionary law
aimed at unification, standardization, and secularization of the educational
institutions. Then, the authority on
religious services and officials was given to the Presidency of Religious
Affairs established in 1924. In this study, it is aimed to reveal the process
that the clergy, "Imam and Preacher" and "Pulpit
trustee", is trained and employed
in the period starting from the year of 1924, when the Presidency of Religious
Affairs was founded to of 2014, which is the period being influenced by the
political debates and conflicts. This review study follows the method of
document analysis. It is found in the study that the clergy appointment to the
mosques carried out after 1924 according to the Law of Village. From 1931 to
1950, mosques and their officials were under the authority of the Diroctorate
General of Foundations. In this period, all the prays such as "Azan", "Kamet" and
"Takbir” in mosques were compulsory in Turkish, otherwise officers were
sanctioned. Especially, 1930s and 40s were the years of oppression on the
issues of religious life and education. On the other hand, later years were the
ones that religion revived, in which the number of musques increased and became
120.000 in 2014, once in 1924 were around 4.500.
