Abstract
This study was conducted to examine the relationship between university students' social appearance anxiety and healthy lifestyle behaviors according to some demographic variables.
The research was planned as a descriptive research in the cross-sectional and relational survey model. A total of 457 university students, 220 female (Xage = 24.57) and 237 male (Xage = 22) participated in this study, voluntarily. In the study “Demographic Information Form”, “Social Appearance Anxiety Scale” and “Healthy Lifestyle Behaviors-II Scale” were used. In the analysis of the data, descriptive statistics, t-test and Pearson Correlation Analysis were applied.
The results showed that social appearance anxiety and healthy lifestyle behaviors didn’t differ according to gender, but it differed significantly in interpersonal relationships and health responsibility sub-dimensions according to gender. It was observed that social appearance anxiety and, health responsibility, physical activity, taking nourishment, spiritual development, interpersonal relationships and stress management subdimensions differ significantly by the exercising variety. The result of the pearson correlation analysis reveal that negative low-level significant relation between social appearance anxiety and healthy lifestyle behaviours. It can be said that there is a negative relationship between social appearance anxiety and healthy lifestyle behaviors, and participation in exercise supports healthy lifestyle behaviors and reduces social appearance anxiety.
