Abstract

This review focuses on İhsan Erdinçli's study titled "Keyif, Günah ve Suç Arasında Osmanlı’da Meyhaneler ve Müdavimleri", which was published in 2021 and examines the taverns and their patrons in the Ottoman Empire. After mentioning the chapters of the work, the review will touch upon the assumptions, methodology and sources of the research and evaluate the contribution of the study to the literature. The study focuses on the actors who consumed alcohol in the Ottoman Empire, particularly non-Muslim subjects, taverns and tavern-keeping as a profession, in the center of the changes that took place during the "renewal" process.

Keyif, Günah ve Suç Arasında Osmanlı’da Meyhaneler ve Müdavimleri

Abstract

Bu değerlendirme, İhsan Erdinçli’nin 2021 yılında yayınlanan ve Osmanlı Devleti’nin meyhaneleri ile müdavimlerini incelediği Keyif, Günah ve Suç Arasında Osmanlı’da Meyhaneler ve Müdavimleri adlı çalışmasını ele almaktadır. Değerlendirmede eserin bölümlerinden bahsedildikten sonra, araştırmanın kabulleri, yöntemi ve kaynaklarına temas edilecek ve çalışmanın literatüre katkısı değerlendirilecektir. Çalışma, Osmanlı İmparatorluğu’nda başta gayrimüslim tebaa olmak üzere içki tüketen aktörleri, meyhaneleri ve bir meslek kolu olarak meyhaneciliği, “yenileşme” sürecinde yaşanan değişim merkezinde ele almaktadır.
