Abstract
20. yüzyılın ortalarından itibaren siyasi konjonktürün de etkisiyle aynı kutupta yer alan Türkiye ve ABD arasındaki ilişkiler hep aynı düzlemde ilerlememiş, farklı değişkenler ilişkilerin seyrini etkilemiştir. Türk-Amerikan ilişkilerindeki kırılma noktalarından biri de John F. Kennedy Dönemi olmuştur. 1961-1963 yılları arasında 35. Amerikan başkanı olarak görev yapan Kennedy, 22 Kasım 1963 tarihinde Texas eyaletinin Dallas şehrinde halkı selamlarken suikasta uğramış ve hayatını kaybetmişti. Bu suikast, Türkiye’de derin bir üzüntüyle karşılanmış ve basında Kennedy suikastına dair pek çok haber ve değerlendirmeye yer verilmiştir. Gazeteler Kennedy’yi adeta yücelten bir tutum ile değerlendirmiştir. John F. Kennedy 22 Kasım 1963’te suikasta uğradığında Türkiye’de bayraklar yarıya indirilmiş, yas ilan edilmiş, Kennedy’ye dair haberler günlerce gazetelerin manşetlerinden inmemiştir. Kennedy’ye yönelik bu olumlu algının sebepleri merak uyandırıcı ve aydınlatılmaya değerdir. Bu çalışmada, Başkan Kennedy’nin basındaki bu olumlu imajının sebepleri ve Kennedy suikastı ile 1964’ten itibaren olumsuz yönde değişmeye başlayan Türk-Amerikan ilişkilerinin seyri arasında bir bağ olup olmadığı ele alınacaktır. Buna ilişkin, Kennedy suikastının Türk kamuoyundaki akislerini dönemin basınında yayınlanan haber ve makaleler üzerinden okumak yerinde olacaktır.
