Today, social media in addition to the expected and anticipated benefits such as regarding as the expression and dissemination of the minority thoughts in the society; easy and fast access to information and the creation of a participatory culture; it is also discussed because of the economic, political and social changes and transformations it creates. Social media platforms emerge as a public space where people with different ideologies and opinions meet, group, clash or compromise. However, these platformas are also the property of a commercial enterprise operating in the free market and are mainly for profit. It provides its users with information, freedom and content creation, etc. within the framework of their own terms of use. These institutions that give rights are also in the position of economic power with this power they have. On the other hand, social media platforms offer their own user rules and can impose sanctions on those who do not comply with them. At this point, it is possible to say that the rules of use, control mechanisms and sanctions applied by social media platforms have been disguised as relatively weak international law rules and even have gained a political dimension. In order to prevent the abuse of this power of social media platforms, which have become economic and political actors in the global sense, it is also important to deal with the legal regulations on an international scale and to inspect the social media companies, which have gained strength through the processing of user content and personal data, within the framework of fundamental rights and freedoms. The aim of this study is to look at social media from a critical perspective by examining these changes and transformations with their economic, political and social dimensions.
