Abstract
Aim: The purpose of this research is to examine the effect of the training tool designed to be used in handball training on shooting performance
Methods: The population of the research consists of the athletes participating in the Iraqi Youth League in the 2020-2021 season. Convenience sampling technique, which is one of the purposeful sampling techniques, was used in the study. The sampling included 22 handball players (6 pilots, 8 experiments, 8 controls) aged 17-19 and competing in the 1st league. The data were collected in the 2020-2021 academic year. A training tool was designed to measure shooting skill before the research. The tests to be used in the research were determined by taking expert opinion and it was decided to apply 3 different shooting tests (vertical jump, forward jump and standing). Participants performed 5 trials from 9 meters away from the moving circles on the training device. 2 points were given for the shots that went inside the circle, 1 point for the shots that hit the circle, and 0 points for the shots that went out of the circle. Post-trial scores were recorded. During the research process, 24 training sessions were carried out, 3 days a week. The trainings lasted 8 weeks in total. The obtained data were recorded in the computer environment and SPSS 24 package program was used in the analysis of the data. Descriptive statistics were used in the analysis process. The increase in the pre- and post-test scores of the experimental and control groups was shown by the improvement rate. Paired groups t-test was used to determine the difference between the groups in the pre-test and post-test scores. The significance level was accepted as p˂0.05.
Results: To the results of the research, it was determined that the experimental group showed an improvement of 61.53% in the vertical jump, 69.23% in the forward jump and 136% in the standing shooting test. When the pre-test and post-test scores of the experimental and control groups were compared, it was determined that there was a significant difference between the groups (p<0.05).
Conclusion: As a result, it was found that the training tool designed to be used in handball training contributed positively to the shooting performance. It is recommended that the designed device be used in handball trainings in order to contribute to performance development and new research should be conducted using the device.
