As it is known, education activities in the Ottoman society were carried out mostly through waqfs. Education services were also financed by waqfs in the Macedonia region, which came under Ottoman rule in 1391. In addition to the wages paid to the scholars and assistants assigned to the schools built, the founders provided various aids for the students. Moreover, some founders stated the names of the courses they wanted to be taught in the primary schools in their endowment deeds (waqfiya). Among these founders, Yahya Pasha and Süleyman Efendi, gave detailed information about the number of students to be educated at their schools, the clothes to be purchased for them, etc. In this study, the waqf schools established in Skopje and Bitola/Manastir will be evaluated in the light of the information in the endowment deeds.
