FOCUSING: STEVE JOBS’ METHOD

Abstract

Efficiency is achieved by focusing on the main fields of activity of the companies. By following which methodology, should companies identify the issues to focus on? This article examines the focussing strategy of Steve Jobs at Apple. In Job’s method, the employees determine 10 strategies and present it to Jobs. He chooses three of them and set them as the goals of next year. There is a bottom-up planning in his method, rather than hierarchical and top-down. This shows that the ideas of the employees are given importance with the methods of collective editing and collective intelligence. In his focussing strategy, Jobs uses Zen-style ability with an understanding of getting to the core of the event, eliminating unnecessary components, and simplifying things. In this study, Jobs’ focusing strategy is analysed through a textile company.

ODAKLANMA: STEVE JOBS YÖNTEMİ

Abstract

Verimlilik, firmaların ana faaliyet alanlarına odaklanmaları ile gerçekleşmektedir. Hangi metodolojiyi takip ederek şirketler, odaklanacak konularını belirlemeliler? Bu makale, Steve Jobs’un Apple firmasında odaklanma üzerine takip ettiği stratejiyi incelemektedir. Jobs’un metodunda; çalışanların belirlediği 10 stratejinin Jobs’a sunulması ve Jobs’un aralarından 3 tanesini seçerek gelecek yılın faaliyetlerini açıklaması ile süreç işlemektedir. Hiyerarşik ve tepeden inmeci değil aşağıdan yukarıya doğru bir planlama mevcuttur. Bu da ortak kurgulama ve kolektif zeka yöntemleriyle çalışanların fikirlerine önem verildiğini göstermektedir. Jobs’un gerek teknolojide gerek ekonomide inovasyon modelleri ortaya çıktıkça, Jobs’a atfedilen mitolojik unsurların yerine dönemin genel uygulamalarının çok dışında bir yol izlediği anlaşılmaktadır. Jobs’un Zen tarzı odaklanma yeteneği, olayın özüne inme, gereksiz bileşenleri ortadan kaldırma, işleri basitleştirme anlayışıyla birlikte gerçekleşmiştir. Jobs’un izlediği odaklanma stratejisi bir tekstil firması üzerinden işlenmektedir.
