THE RISE OF ROBOT GUIDES IN TOURIST GUIDANCE PROFESSION

Abstract

The discoveries and inventions that have been realized since ancient times, are the source of the technology we have today and the technology we have today will be the source of the future technological developments. Developments in artificial intelligence, robot technologies and software affect manufacturing, trade and service sectors and lead to the emergence of the concepts such as robot teachers, digital nurses, robot receptionist especially in the service sector. Tourism sector is one of the sectors that human relations are at the forefront. Tourist guidance profession -one of the sub-branches of tourism sector - is also affected from the technological developments. Today, robot tourist guides perform service in museums and exhibition halls in some countries around the world. In the study, which is based on a comprehensive literature review, it is aimed to determine recent  and possible future roles of robot tour guides in the tourist guidance profession where human relations are at the forefront. Considering the development of robot tour guides over time as well as the developments in robot technologies, it is predicted that robot guides will start to provide guidance in open areas in the medium or long term.

TURİST REHBERLİĞİ MESLEĞİNDE ROBOT REHBERLERİN YÜKSELİŞİ

Abstract

Eski çağlardan bu yana gerçekleştirilmiş olan keşif ve icatlar bugün sahip olduğumuz teknolojiye kaynaklık ederken, bugün sahip olduğumuz teknoloji ise gelecekte yaşanacak olan teknolojik gelişmelere kaynaklık edecektir. Yapay zekâ, robot teknolojileri ve yazılım alanındaki gelişmeler imalat, ticaret ve hizmet sektöründeki birçok meslekte etkisini göstermekte ve özellikle hizmet sektöründe robot öğretmen, dijital hemşire, robot resepsiyon görevlisi gibi yeni kavramların ortaya çıkmasına zemin hazırlamaktadır. İnsan ilişkilerinin ön planda olduğu bir hizmet sektörlerinden bir de turizm sektörüdür. Turizmin sektörünün alt meslek dallarından olan turist rehberliği mesleği de teknoloji alanında yaşanan gelişmelerden payına düşeni almaktadır. Teknoloji alanında yaşanan gelişmeler neticesinde günümüzde robot turist rehberleri dünyanın çeşitli ülkelerinde müze ve sergi salonlarında rehberlik hizmeti vermektedir. Geniş kapsamlı literatür taramasına dayanan bu çalışmada, insan ilişkilerinin ön planda olduğu turist rehberliği mesleğinde robot turist rehberlerinin bugünkü ve gelecekteki muhtemel rolü belirlenmeye çalışılmıştır. Robot turist rehberlerinin zaman içindeki gelişiminin yanı sıra robot teknolojilerinde yaşanan gelişmeler dikkate alındığında orta veya uzun vadede robot rehberlerin açık alanlarda da rehberlik hizmeti veremeye başlayacakları öngörülmüştür.
