Abstract
Erdal İnönü, who was one of the first generations of the Republic and also the son of the 2nd President İsmet İnönü, returned to his country with his higher education in the USA and carried out studies in the field of physics in various universities as a result of his humble education life. Erdal İnönü, who entered politics to gather social democrats as a result of the the intense insistence of those dissatisfied with the Populist Party, which was founded to replace the closed Republican People's Party after the coup of September 12, 1980, founded SODEP in 1983 and by combining this party with the Populist Party in 1985, initiated the emergence of the SHP. SHP, the main opposition party in the 1987 elections, had its greatest success as the first party in the local elections in 1989. As a result of the 1991 elections, SHP came to power in coalition with the DYP and Erdal İnönü served as deputy prime minister in this government. In 1993, the 1st DYP-SHP Government ended, with the death of President Turgut Özal and the election of Suleyman Demirel as president, and Erdal Inonu withered from active politics, announced that he would not run for leader of the SHP.
