Bacteria of the Shigella genus in the Enterobacteriaceae family which are pathogenic for humans are gram negative dormant bacilli. Shigella species, which cause especially gastrointestinal infections , are one of the most common causes of bacterial gastroenteritis. Extra-gastrointestinal Shigella infections are rare and usually show with neurological findings and arthritis. Urinary tract infections caused by Shigella species are extremely rare in the literatur. In our case, a urinary tract infection caused by Shigella boydii isolated from the urine culture of an 80-year-old female patient who applied to the urology policlinic with complaints of dysuria and pollacuria for three days is presented.
