In this study, the work named Ways of Seeing is examined. This work, which belongs to John Berger, who is both a writer, an art critic and a painter, has been brought to the Turkish literature with the translation of Yurdanur Salman. The starting point of this book, which consists of seven essays, was a number of important ideas in the conversations with Berger in the BBC television series, and these views were examined in the book. Both verbal and visual images are used in the first, third, fifth and seventh chapters of the book. In the second, fourth and sixth sections, there are only visual images. The book focuses on ways of seeing visuality and images, the role of women as subjects in works of art, various contradictory aspects of oil paintings and advertising images. It is important in terms of advertising that the work leads to question the ways of seeing images and presents a critical point of view against advertisements, which are an important tool in maintaining the capitalist system.
