Introduction: Medication errors are a global health problem. They are more common in pediatric patients than in adult patients.
Methods: The study was conducted as a pre-test and post-test control group, which is one of the quasi-experimental research types. The sample for this research project comprises third-year students enrolled in the Department of Nursing, Faculty of Nursing, Gazi University, during the spring semester of the 2022-2023 academic year. The "Student Descriptive Characteristics Form", "Pediatric Medication Administration Observation Form", and "Peer Mentoring Evaluation Scale" were used to collect the data. The study was conducted in two stages. In the first stage, peer mentors were trained. In the second stage, peer educators and adult researchers trained the students. In the data analysis process, a t-test was used in independent groups to make comparisons between groups. In the context of intra-group comparisons, a t-test was conducted on independent groups.
Results: The groups (peer education group n=90, adult education group n=88) have similar sociodemographic characteristics (p>0.05). The pre-test and post-test score increases of the students in the peer and adult mentoring groups are statistically significant, and there is no significant difference between the groups (p>0.05).
Conclusion: As a result of the research, findings were obtained showing that peer teaching positively affected the pediatric medication administration process of 3rd year nursing students.
