Western thought which is based on a confrontational paradigm rediscovered Islam as “a new other” with the collapse of communism and initiated the debate on Islam’s compatibility with democracy. However, the discussion was carried out a non-academic level in many aspects. In this study, it was stated that it is not an objective method to compare Islam with democracy by taking democracy into the center. If the topic is analyzed objectively, it was emphasized that Islam has an unique model which cannot be compared in single-sided way with democracy. In this context, first of all, the inaccuracy of democracy-centered unilateral comparison of Islam with democracy was revealed. Secondly, based on the primary sources, it was considered that Islam’s view of politics and the basic principles of its unique model and that this model has similar aspects to democracy as well as differences. After that, it was stated that Muslim societies which are in a dilemma because this unique model cannot be applied today due to different reasons, are under the attack of oppressive regimes. Finally, it was revealed that Muslim societies should see democracy as a preferable alternative to despotic models in the current conditions.
