When we look through either our native literature or other national literatures; we see that, the being of woman is principally identified in specific stereotypes by making her imprisoned in a secondary value. In novels, stories and fairy tales; the status and the adventure of a young girl or a woman in the narrative, could only reach till the boundaries which was enforced by patriarchal culture. One of the significant reasons of this attitude is the tendency in which woman is always identified by putting emphasis on her body. More than that; the body of woman is still identified over an exchange value. In this regard, in order to identify how woman is marginalized by her own culture; it is required to investigate firstly the literary texts written in male language then the ones which have a feminine poetics especially written by woman novelists. Since the social gender is built over language; following the expressions of the femininity in different literary texts, is the best way to show how the femininity as an otherness is interiorised by women easily. As it is known, culture establishes some centers in the language field and these centers rise over the binary oppositions. These binary oppositions almost every time serve for woman to be negated or reduced. In such a cultural organisation; is it possible for woman to build her own identity directly and instinctively both in life and in fictional stories? This study seeks answer for this question and aims to reveal the value of hair image in the process of self manifestation of woman as a significant sign of femininity. The main purpose of this research is to address the uncunny relation of woman with her hair and enligten the identity creating process. In this regard, the arguments related with our subject will be examined with some examples from fairy tales and novels by using theoretical discussion method.
