The relationship between art and politics is a phenomenon that has survived since the dawn of humanity. Socio-economic situation, cultural development and political factors in societies have emerged as situations that play an important role in the variable and characterization of the relationship between these two concepts. Art and artists were affected by these changes, especially during periods of change in societies, and they carried this situation to their works.
The relationship between art and politics is actually a framework in which the effectiveness of art is displayed using social images and forces. In addition to the fact that art and artist were affected by politics and experienced transformation, art has become one of the important actors of politics, especially in active periods, and has been one of the elements that shape society. When we examine the works of art that have survived until today, it is possible to see that they have the political characteristics of the period in which they were written.
Before modernism, art was made with the understanding that it can exist as much as it benefits society. With modernism, art has broken its ties from politics for a while and gained its autonomy. The artist, who is dealing with art in the modern period, has now started to reflect his own feelings and thoughts in his works. With this situation, the artist is no longer a tool of politics and has taken his place in politics as an influential figure.
